Developing Countries face a new Challenge

The latest ILO report reveals an alarming trend in the labour market of emerging countries. Guy Ryder the ILO's Director General explained this bleak picture: " the significant slowdown in emerging economies coupled with a sharp decline in commodity prices is having a dramatic effect on the world of work ". According to this report " vulnerable employment " which means low quality and instable work is particularly high in those countries hitting between half and three-quarters of the employed population -74% in Southern Asia-. And of course, the social protection of these workers is weak or even unavailable. In emerging and developing countries the number of people in precarious employment is expected to grow by 25 million over the next 3 years. Globally, the number of unemployed people reached 197.1 million in 2015. In spite of these poor figures, the most optimistic among us refer to the UN Agenda 2030 which has one objective: "We envisage a world in which every country enjoys sustained, inclusive and decent work for all". Unfortunately, the reality is different: indeed, many experts underline the poor job prospects in the coming year.
