Private Cars are not going to go away

According to Eurostat the highest number of cars per inhabitant was recorded in luxembourg with 661 cars for every 1000 inhabitants, followed by Malta Italy and Finland. Worldwide, the US has the largest motorization rate with 808 cars for every 1000 inhabitants followed by New-Zealand, Australia and Canada. In contrast, the motorization rate is 102 in China and 22 in India. Now imagine what the impact will be on the environment in these two big countries when the number of private vehicles will rocket up. The good news is that current buyers prefer petrol cars rather than diesel cars. Let's not forget that the large number of diesel engine vehicles can mainly be explained by the tax incentives provided by the governments. The not so good news is that the sale of cars powered by alternative fuels is still disappointing. Here too, the success of such vehicles will depend primarily on the importance of incentives designed to stimulate the share of cars with lower emissions. The private car is very much in demand across the world. We therefore need to make a much greater effort to drastically reduce the environmental impact due to an expected rapid increase in the number of vehicles on the road.
